Below are a few key points of 6th grade policies, and classroom expectations. The full Policies and Procedures document can be viewed, in full, at the bottom of the page.
Class Expectation: Language Arts relies heavily on critical thinking, group discussion, reading, writing, nurturing of creativity, and independent thought. As a class, we must "respect all" so every individual can work in an environment that supports these activities. One must respect him or herself by knowing that he or she has the ability to learn and grow through mastering class content. One must respect others so they can experience the class to its fullest extent (including teachers and substitutes). Lastly, one must respect the classroom, its materials, and resources, so the class can collectively thrive in an environment poised for learning. When everyone "respects all" in Language Arts class, incredible discussions take place, creativity flows, independent thought flourishes, and learning soars.
Please note the absence/make-up work policy. If a student is absent, he or she is responsible for requesting all missed work from each missed class. The student has the number of days absent to make-up the work. For example, if a student is absent for two days on a Monday and Tuesday, the student has two school days (Wednesday and Thursday) to complete the work and must hand the work in the following day (Friday). If a student is absent for one day on a Monday, the student have one day (Tuesday) to complete the work, and must hand the work in the following day (Wednesday).
Please note the 6th grade homework policy. This policy operates on an increasing level of student responsibility as the school year progresses. Any time that a student misses a homework assignment, the student will receive a zero and must stay after school with the teacher for a detention to complete the assignment. After the homework is complete, the zero will remain in place. Please see below for the number of missed homework assignments per marking period.
MP 1: 3 missed homework assignments (complete after school for a zero); 4th missed assignment = central detention
MP 2: 2 missed homework assignments (complete after school for a zero); 3rd missed assignment = central detention
MP3: same as MP2
MP4: 1 missed homework assignment (complete after school for a zero); 2nd missed assignment = central detention
